The year is done, the final numbers are in, and I'm excited to share my recap of 2022 in the most recent episode of The Em Makes Money Show.

Now honestly, I sometimes hesitate to put a line in the sand and say, "this was the best thing that happened this year." It creates a finality that I don't love, and the standard superlatives can make me feel a little boxed in.

But I know the practice of reflection and looking back to see where the money is ACTUALLY coming from in my business is incredibly powerful.

It's something I recommend EVERYONE do.

If you're reading this and thinking, "it's too late to do something like this!" This is your reminder that it's NEVER TOO LATE. It doesn't matter that it's February, and it's okay if you don't get to it until March, April, or even May.

This type of reflection and review can help at any time to see which things moved the needle the most, give you a chance to check in on what feels really good, and help you figure out if there are shifts you want to make or changes in what you want to promote moving forward.

Now, with a bit of help from questions I pulled from google, this episode walks you through my year, starting with my highlight reel:

  • I had another million-dollar year
  • I went on a very special spiritual retreat in Sedona
  • I worked with a personal stylist for the first time in preparation for an amazing photo shoot
  • Hundreds of clients tapped into my coaching through multiple different offers
  • My family went to Hawaii and took a Disney cruise

And that’s just scratching the surface of the 2022 highlights; it really was a pretty darn incredible year!

I also had plenty of plot twists, the things that didn't go according to plan or felt really challenging, and I had to work through them.

For example:

  • We lost agency clients over the year, which is part of being an agency owner but not the easiest part
  • I hired a couple of agencies (meaning two) and unfortunately had bad experiences with both of them as the client
  • Some of our best friends moved out-of-state this year
  • We wound down our e-commerce business
  • And plenty of other things

But the beautiful thing about these plot twists and challenges is that we get to leave behind some of the negative aspects, but we can ask ourselves what lessons we wish to carry forward.

This year, some of those lessons were:

  • That slow is fast
  • The universe is always helping
  • Build churn into business projections
  • Making the wrong moves get you further ahead than inaction
  • Selling something all year feels kind of meh, and it feels better to have enrollment windows and focused times when I'm selling
  • It's safe to be controversial

‌There are always lessons.

And, of course, we have to talk about the $.

When I looked back, I looked at it from an overall financial perspective, and between the agency, my coaching business, and the e-commerce business that we wound down in 2022, there was a grand total of $1,333,935 cash collected for the year.

I also broke down my coaching business and looked at numbers by month. I explored what offers generated what, and I looked at some numbers around how many people I got to work with during the year and what different countries they came from.

Now, this was really quite eye-opening, and it made me feel so proud of my coaching business! I never set out to create an international business or have hundreds of transactions. Yet, with 302 transactions and clients in 16 countries,
it happened on it’s own!

There was so much packed into this one year. And I did my best to share as much as I could in this episode.

It's a snapshot of my year. And when I look back and consider if there was anything I would do differently, there isn't. I believe I had to get all of the lessons that I got, and I wouldn't go back in time and do it any differently.

So give this episode a listen--I shared all the lessons, juicy details, and little surprises I could.

And if you haven't already done your own reflection and review, feel free to pull ideas for what questions to ask, what information you can look at, and what you could take away from the episode.
